sleepdeprived_d Posted July 3, 2019 Report Share Posted July 3, 2019 Hello Community. I've been struggling to upgrade my 4.1.4 install to 4.2.1. Following the instructions here https://www.revive-adserver.com/support/upgrading/ has worked great in the past but not today. I get to the second step in running the actual upgrade and I cannot login. I just get dumped back at the same page and asked for my login again. Having spent too much time already on this, I decided to upgrade to 4.2.0 from 4.1.4 - and following the same instructions etc. worked fine. Then, trying to upgrade from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1 I get the same issue - login loop. I'm certain my .conf.php file is pointing to the correct database with the correct login. I'm confident the permissions have been properly set on the various folders etc. and I'm confident I have the correct admin password etc. to login to the Ad Server so I am at a loss. What does something like the Chrome developer tools show? I'm interested in the sequence of URLs that the browser attempts to load at the point where the looping starts to happen. mitchems Posted September 3, 2019 Report Share Posted September 3, 2019 I am having the exact same problem upgrading from revive 4.14 to 4.21. I installed PHP 7.2, apache and mysql. In the following configuration: Apache/2.4.39 (Amazon) PHP/7.2.19 Mysql 5.6 I know the configuration is the correct file in the correct location. I get through the install first screen and get the login screen. If I put in the correct id and password, it goes back to the login screen with no errors. If I put in the incorrect id or password, I get the message: "The username and/or password were not correct. Please try again." I can't get past 2 in the "Upgrading to Revive Adserver 4.2.1" wizard. Chrome developer tools shows one cookie: ox_install_session_id - no others. Should I downgrade PHP? Should I install version 4.2.0 first? Please advise. mitchems Posted September 4, 2019 Report Share Posted September 4, 2019 I figured it out. I was installing the upgrade on a new AWS instance so that I wouldn't interrupt the old one. I found that it was still requiring HTTPS but I didn't have a cert on that server. Yes, that is the correct path. This is an old install from when Revive was called OpenX so I've stuck with the naming convention. Doing everything the same but upgrading to 4.20 it worked. That looks like it's supposed to be a variable that hasn't been replaced correctly. Is that really the literal name of the directory? That definitely sounds like a good starting point, then. The plugins/etc directory should not be empty in the existing installation that you are attempting to upgrade from. You may need to go back to the existing installation, and resolve the issue with the plugins there (there are details on how to do that in the troubleshooting documentation on our site) before attempting the upgrade again. The upgrade process expects your existing installation's plugins to be present, and copies them over from there as part of the upgrade process. (We do this because you may have 3rd party plugins installed that Revive Adserver otherwise wouldn't know about; if we didn't copy them over, all those 3rd party plugins would be missing after ever upgrade.) You might be better off starting a new thread that provides some details about exactly what you did to get the issue you have, and provide some details about what you have tried/what you see in the logs.
