Help With Geotargeting

Try as I might, I just can’t figure this one out.

I want to geotarget by city. I have enabled the geotargeting plugin and uploaded the GeoLiteCityv6.dat file into the same directory as the FreeGeoIPCountry.dat file. No matter what path I use, I can’t get the banner limitation to show anything but “continent” and “country” which seem to function correctly. I have modified the xml and php files as suggested but haven’t had any luck with that. I tried showing all the geotargeting options even though there is no database for them but, of course, that is a waste of time.

Any suggestions outside of trying to code my own plugin or mess with server configurations would be greatly appreciated.

I think GeoLiteCityv6.dat might a format that's not compatible (yet) with Revive Adserver. I'll get in touch with them and see how we can improve, but for now you should use:

http://dev.maxmind.com/geoip/legacy/geolite/

I mean http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoLiteCountry/GeoIP.dat.gz

or http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoLiteCity.dat.gz

Same issue here

Interesting thing: when i delete FreeGeoIPCountry.dat from it's directory , upload maxmind GeoIPOrg.dat there and rename it to FreeGeoIPCountry.dat delivery limitations start to display ISP/Organization targeting option (but no country or any other Geo tageting ). Otherwise it doesn't work.

Matteo Beccati:

I still couldn't set up delivery limitations. I think it probably has something to do with the path to the *.dat file. Whenever I change the path to the default geo limitation it goes away also.  The path I'm using for the geo/city.dat file is /www/ads/plugins/geoTargeting/oxMaxMindGeoIP/data. I have tried the complete path (from Http: //subdomain.mydomain.com all the way to the *.dat file itself. No luck) I'm going to try Revive on it's own domain and see if that works. In case anyone has the same problem, I'll post the result.

Newbie:

I tried what you did. It seems to work. I did get all the delivery options but only the options for the city database seem to be working (after that is the database I installed so I guess that's logical) but I am not quite sure. I will have to make sure that the ads are only being delivered to the cities I indicate. I really don't like tricking the plug in code that way but so far, that seems to be the only thing that works.

Thank you both.

I still don't have the geotargeting working exactly the way I want and after some thought have decided that, for my purpose, a country limitation will probably be good enough.

I have my instance of Revive in a subdomain so the path looks for it there. In any case, here it is. I hope  you have better luck than I did.

Russ, for my ads package I need to have regions.
