andrewatfornax reacted to Erik Geurts in Banner Ad Images Disappearing After Last 2 Upgrades
Please have a look at http://www.reviveconsultant.com/articles/how-to-move-the-banner-image-storage-location-in-revive-adserver/ which is what we've assumed you've done before performing an upgrade as described here http://www.revive-adserver.com/support/upgrading/

andrewatfornax reacted to Erik Geurts in City/dma Geotargeting No Longer Working.
We've noticed the same thing in some cases. The May 2015 update of the city data file made by MaxMind appears to be defective. We reverted to the April 2015 data file and all was fine again.

We tried contacting MaxMind about it, but they claim the data file is OK (even though there is strong evidence it is not). Hopefully the June update will fix things again.

The software had been designed to update the statistics once per hour. This can not be changed.

Ad Blocker in Chrome was blocking my own adserver.domain.com.... lol.  I was led there by looking at the bid bold red errors in the javascript console.  Such an idiot.

    Sorry for the noise.

andrewatfornax reacted to Erik Geurts in Different Banner Size In Same Zone?
In the dimensions of a zone, you can enter the width or the height (or both) as a * instead of a fixed number. This means the size becomes a wild card.

Let's suppose you make a zone of 300 pixels wide and * pixels high. You can then link banners from campaigns, with sizes like 300x250 but also 300x600.

andrewatfornax got a reaction from Richard Foley in Billing And Payment?
    Hi!

Easy question to answer - because of the history of the project. It started out way back when as an open source product to do what was needed - and this really is a long time ago now - and billing & payment simply wasn't a need. Then it was adopted by the company that is now known as OpenX, and again, that company as it developed the software simply didn't need this functionality.

Now that the project has been brought back to the open source community, it's possible that we could add this feature, if there's demand for it, and time and/or funding to make it happen. But as a volunteer-based open source project.... Well, the team does everything it can to make Revive Adserver great, but I can basically guarantee we can't make everyone happy & add every feature. Not unless someone wants to come along and come up with a finance package for it that lets us code full time on the project!

    Hi
From slight experience using OpenX and Joomla, I'd say you need to paste the invocation code from the zone you set up in the ad server software into a probably new Joomla html module (best done with text editor turned off to avoid unnecessary mashing of code upon save!); then you could have that module visible on the areas of the site you want by assigning it to relevant menu items (second tab on the module manager in Joomla 3.x).

You will have to make sure that you place the ad code only on the homepage of your Joomla and not on the header or footer.

andrewatfornax reacted to Erik Geurts in Revive Is Slowing Down My Vps
I agree with firstimpression, the number of impressions per day is irrelevant if we don't know what kind of resources your vps has. On our hosting platform, we can easily serve a million impressions per 10 minutes, but that involves a lot more hardware than just a tiny VPS.

Your hosting provider is absolutely correct, although, this is a very wide question, and you did not even provide any details on the system that serves 1M impressions.
You should find bottlenecks - analyze CPU load, system load, memory availability, etc. You should also check limitations that you have set on your web server (max processes, and such) by monitoring your server with different tools.
I am sure you haven't exploited yet the optimization boost that can give you memcached, mysql query cache, xcache, eAccelerator, nginx, and a whole bunch of other approaches that you can easily find on the internet.

If the number of campaigns, zones, banners, etc, is low, then it should be enough 2 CPUs/4GB RAM with proper system settings to serve 1M daily.

Either way, what you describe sounds like Apache is thrashing as it reaches ServerLimit, try checking that.

Try to Delete the cache from the below path in revive adserver /var/cache. This might resolve your issue.

I'm afraid the developer documentation is gone during the project move to Revive Adserver. So there's no relevant URLs to link to just yet.

You can use global targeting channels too. For it go to Preferences->Targeting Channel Management. So these Channels will be able for every website.

andrewatfornax reacted to Matteo Beccati in Serving Ads Over Https Fails
If you have HTML banners containing http:// urls, then Revive Adserver won't serve them over SSL to avoid browser error messages. Please fix your banners, wait for the delivery cache to expire (or clean it up manually), then retry.

andrewatfornax reacted to Snoork Hosting in Need Disk Space And My Cache Is 2,2 Gb
Yes, you can delete the cache files and new cache files will continue to generate. 2 GB of space is very low. You may want to consider increasing your hosting disk space slightly.

andrewatfornax reacted to DanM2 in Revive Killing Cpu In Peak Hours?
Thanks for the response!  It was certainly an oddity, and unfortunately I don't have any detailed server logs from before October to determine if the CPU usage was occurring as I described before moving it to a fresh AWS instance at that point.  I agree about the asynchronous tags causing a change to the performance level which made it noticeable, however it does seem like the irregular CPU usage was happening at a smaller scale prior.  In any case, I'm just glad that it's gone now, with the server seeming to operate closer to what I would expect (CPU system usage is a bit higher than other servers, but the CPU steal time is practically zero which was the big worry).  It could've just been that the usage we get needed a bit more power, we'll probably never know sadly.  Hopefully I'm the only one who has this weird issue, but if not, then maybe this can help someone in the future.  Thanks again!

Sorry to hear the plugin Erik mentions is out of your price range.

It would be great if we could extend core Revive Adserver functionality to more cases, but as an open source project, there's only so much we can do without community support.

We're working really hard on documentation right now, and as part of that, I'd like to get more developer documentation up - perhaps one day that will help the community to bring features like (or others) this into core.

    Cheers,

andrewatfornax reacted to stapel_eliz in New Way To Hack Database?
Today, I discovered another hack of my adserver. I'd had version 3.1, with the usual precautions, file permissions, etc.

The new hack appended a Javascript to the text in the "htmlcache" field. There was nothing in the "append" or "prepend" fields. The script was tacked onto the intended text. It put an iframe (calling an undesired URL) at an absolute position, did something with cookies (?), and then put another absolute-position iframe with another undesired different URL.

I've forwarded specific details to the proper e-mail address for this issue; I haven't yet heard back. I have been unable to locate any other instances of this particular hack, either here on through Google in general. I know that details, etc, are not to be posted here, but I wanted to post something, so people would be aware of the issue.

If you've got unintended ads being served up on your site, and if you can't find anything in the "prepend" or "append" fields, check in "banners" for coding in "htmlcache" that doesn't match what you'd intended.
